incandescent lamp-series and parallel connection

                     DIFFERENT SOURCES OF LIGHT

                                       INCANDESCENT LAMP

It is also known as filament lamp.A Tungsten filament is placed inside a glass bulb.wires supports the filament .Electricity flows throw this wires and filament

Why Tungsten is used as filament?
It has very high melting point(3410 c),high resistivity, high ductility(we can make it very thin wire), when heated light is emitted
Why inert gas is filled in this glass bulb?
At high temperature there is a chance of evaporation of Tungsten. To reduce evaporation inert gas filled inside the glass bulb. It increases the life of the bulb
In early days vacuum bulbs are used what is its disadvantages?
Tungsten filament gets evaporated faster.glass changes to black in color, the life period is very less
What is the energy change take place in the bulb?
electrical energy changes to heat and light
Who discovered filament lamb?
Thomas Alva Edison

What is the average life period of an incandescent lamp?
1000 hours
Why the filament of  some bulb melts rapidly?
Some manufacturing defects such as not filling the inert gas inside the glass bulb properly. The heating expansion of glass and filament and filament connecting wires are slightly different. because of this inert gas may escape from the glass bulb. The over current flow in the circuit may also melts the filament
Is Zero watt filament lamp is possible?

No, The actual power of zero watt filament lamp is in between 10w to 20w
In early days the Kilo watt hour meter is inaccurate to read 10w. It has a rotating disc. When all lights are off except Zero watt bulb the rotation of  disc is minimum. So we cant observe its rotation. But now a days electronic KWH meter is highly efficient it can record even the reading of indicator lights in the switch
Connection of Lamps in circuit
We can connect lamps in series and parallel.
 SERIES
                                                 PARALLEL

Why we are always connecting lamps in parallel?
We can provide same voltage to all lamps if they are connected in parallel. We can provide switch for each bulb separately. Complaint of one lamp does not affect the other lamps.
If the lamps are connected in series we cannot provide the same potential difference to all lamps. We cannot use switch for each lamp. If we switch OFF one lamp it will OFF all lamps. If one lamp is complient all other lamps are not works
